Fish bowl-shaped containers have long been used to display cheap bulk candy and small personal
items. It is common to find a few of these candy
jars at the checkout counter of the local convenience store, in a hotel
gift shop, and even at the gas station. Fish bowls are now finding homes in
bars and restaurants because they make the perfect container for the
increasingly popular fish bowl cocktail.
A fish bowl cocktail is
the tastiest (and most alcohol-laden) cocktail you will ever drink! Everyone
from the average bartender to the famous chef Guy Fieri makes this tasty drink.
When Guy makes it, everything looks very haphazard, but there is actually a
method to concocting this delicious drink. Beware, this is not for those who
are shy about drinking alcohol! There is nothing tame about the drink or the
container used to hold it.
What each of the many fish
bowl cocktail recipes has in common are lots of alcohol, a sweet taste, a
fun drink container, and candy. One popular version uses 16 ounces Sprite, 16
ounces pineapple juice, six ounces sweet and sour mix, five ounces vodka, five
ounces Malibu Rum, and three ounces Blue Curacao. Mix, add ice, and pour into a
fishbowl candy jar. Add four Swedish fish, three slices each of orange, lemon,
and lime, and ½ cup of Nerds candy. Garnish with a drink umbrella, twisty
straw, and sparkly decorations.
As candy jars, fish
bowls have long been great sellers. When the fish bowl cocktail came on the scene, this candy container skyrocketed in popularity. It is now available in
an array of fashion colors like blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow. A rose
or sea foam green colored bowl is perfect for a tiki bar, whether it is located
in Wisconsin or the Bahamas. Edgy establishments might like the bright red,
blue, or black fish bowls because these make quite a statement.
To make this great candy
container even more attractive and do a little shameless promotion,
establishments can have their logo imprinted on the side. A one-color logo can
be added to either clear or color tinted fish bowl containers. These candy jars are sold by the case at
prices that make regular glassware look expensive. They are much more attractive
than a typical bar glass and can even be provided as a souvenir to anyone who
manages to finish this huge drink.
Once a drinking establishment begins serving fish bowl cocktails,
it should quickly get a reputation as the best joint in town. When the candy jars are not being used to hold
the delicious drink, they can hold actual candy. Some people like to eat when
they are drinking and a sweet treat may be just what they want.
Every bar should experiment with making the fish bowl cocktail and adding a local twist or other unique aspect.
Birthdays, reunions, and other special occasions are the perfect times to
celebrate with one of these drinks. Fish bowls have gone from being only candy jars to so much more, including
beverage containers.
